Creativity can rev us up, but it can also demand a lot of brainpower and energy. So it’s important to recharge as often as you can.

I’m not a meditation guru – I could actually benefit from becoming much more Zen in life – but I understand the importance of switching off. Whether that means watching episode after episode of Modern Family, cooking up a storm in your kitchen (for Instagram, obviously) or heading to your favourite coffee shop for your 15th double-shot latte, take a break and have some downtime. Or uptime, if you’re that latte drinker.

The benefits will be enormous. It will help you replenish your creative energy while re-energising you for the task ahead. Chances are, you’ll find that your best creative ideas come to you when you’re not focusing on them at all.

My new book, Capture My Attention, is filled with hands-on strategies and techniques, plus workbook-style exercises, to help you instantly generate captivating content for your professional or personal brand.
